Sheinelle Jones Moving Out, Sending 3 Children to New School

sheinelle jones said Thursday that she is moving out of the home she shared with her late husband, Uche Ojeh, and that their three children will attend a new school. She made the announcement on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle on May 14, describing the change as part of clearing out the house.

“I’m moving,” Jones said. “The kids are going to a new school, so we’re moving. I have been going through boxes and boxes and boxes in our basement,” she said, adding, “As if I need more stress.”

Boxes in the basement

Jones said she still has piles of boxes from when she moved her family from Philadelphia to New York in 2014, the same year she became a TODAY anchor. As she sorted through them, she said she told her babysitter, “Just throw it out. If I haven’t seen it in five years, just throw it out.” Her babysitter pushed back: “No, Sheinelle. We’ve got to go through everything.”

That cleanup led to an unexpected find. Jones said she did not know where her wedding dress was, thought it “might be at my mom’s,” and then found it in an old suitcase. “So look what happened. I found this old suitcase and I unzipped it, and it was my wedding dress,” she said.

Wedding dress and Ojeh

Jones said she saw the dress “differently” after Ojeh died in May 2025 at age 45 after a battle with glioblastoma. The dress had been part of a marriage that lasted close to 20 years; Jones and Ojeh married in 2007 after meeting at Northwestern University, where she was a freshman and he was a visiting high school senior touring the school.

The family move adds a school change for Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13, as Jones clears out the home she shared with Ojeh. She had been preserving little from the earlier move, and the wedding dress was still packed away with the old suitcase until the basement search brought it back into view.
