Jamie Allen Coventry City Exit As Seven Players Leave After Promotion
Jamie Allen Coventry City exit was part of a seven-player release as the club moved to shape its squad after promotion to the Premier League. Allen, Brad Collins, Conrad Ambursley, Charlie Finney, Jack James, Greg Sandiford Junior and Kai Yearn will leave when their contracts end.
Jamie Allen’s Coventry run
Allen’s departure ends a spell that began in 2019, when Coventry signed him from Burton for an undisclosed fee. He made more than 180 appearances for the club in all competitions and played 25 times for Frank Lampard’s side this season.
One of his most visible contributions this season came in a 3-1 win against Watford, when he scored in the first half. That gave Coventry a familiar midfielder to lean on during a campaign that ended with promotion and a fresh round of roster changes.
Brad Collins and the release list
Collins is another notable name on the list. Coventry signed the goalkeeper in 2023 from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee, and he spent this season on loan at Burton, which made his exit less surprising than Allen’s.
The other departures are Ambursley, Finney, James, Sandiford Junior and Yearn. Coventry said it would like to thank all departing players for their efforts during their time at the club and wished them well for the future.
Frank Onyeka and July 1
The retained-list announcement also included a separate squad note: Coventry said it has the opportunity to acquire the registration of Brentford loanee Frank Onyeka on a permanent basis from July 1. That leaves the club with one clear task after trimming seven contracts at the end of the season: deciding how much of the promotion squad it wants to carry into the Premier League.
