Morten Hjulmand Draws €60m Arsenal Bid As Rival Race Heats Up
Arsenal have once again made contact for morten hjulmand, and Sporting CP are prepared to let their captain go for €60m this summer. Manchester United and Liverpool are also in the race, turning the 26-year-old into one of the more contested midfield targets ahead of the next window.
Arsenal and Sporting CP
Hjulmand has made 43 appearances this season, scoring two goals and adding six assists. He has done that from midfield while captaining Sporting and has built a reputation as one of the Primeira Liga’s best players, with his tackle numbers placing him in the 95th percentile for midfielders across Europe.
A source said, “Arsenal were in touch recently, Man Utd are also asking to be kept informed.” Sporting’s position is even clearer: the club have an €80million release clause in the deal, but they are willing to start talks around €60m.
Manchester United and Liverpool
The competition goes beyond Arsenal. Manchester United and Liverpool are the two Premier League clubs leading the race for Hjulmand, with Manchester City also in the mix. United are viewed as potential buyers for a second midfield signing after a more statement addition first, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba among the names they are keen on.
That leaves Sporting in a strong bargaining spot. Hjulmand picked up interest last summer and stayed for one more season, and the club now see a summer sale as a way to bank major profit on a player who is expected to secure a bigger move in 2026. A source said, “Sporting have given clubs the signal – he has an €80m release clause, but start negotiations at around €60m and there’s a chance he can go.”
Sporting CP’s £52m Marker
For clubs chasing him, the price is the cleanest part of the picture. Sporting are not demanding the full release clause, and the reported €60m asking point gives Arsenal, United and Liverpool a number they can work from immediately. That is the threshold shaping the race now, not a theoretical valuation months down the line.
A source added, “This is their model, and has been for a long time.” Sporting also know the move could land a significant return, with another source saying, “They know this is a chance to make significant profit on the player, and he’ll be keen to make the step up to a higher level as well.”
