Rickea Jackson drives Chicago offense with 18.5-point start

rickea jackson has already changed Chicago’s offense. In the Sky’s first two wins, she averaged 18.5 points per game and then added five assists against the Golden State Valkyries on May 13, 2026, at Chase Center. The early numbers show a player taking on more than a scoring role after her trade from the Los Angeles Sparks.

Jackson and the Sky offense

Jackson’s move has been about fit as much as production. Latricia Trammell said, "[Coach] Tyler [Marsh] has done an amazing job of playing to Rickea’s strengths. She just feels more confident and comfortable."

The way Jackson is being used reflects that. She said, "That’s something Tyler demands of me. Be a playmaker, a rebounder, a little bit of everything." That showed up against Golden State, where she handed out five assists while helping hold All-Star Kayla Thornton scoreless.

Chicago’s green light for Jackson

The Sky have also given her a clear message when her shot has not gone down. Jackson said teammates told her after her first game, "I didn’t have the best first game shooting but they’re like, ‘I don’t give a damn. Keep shooting,’" and, "Like, ‘We’re gonna still come to you.’"

That support matters because her field-goal percentage had dipped to 34%. Jackson said, "I feel like I haven’t shot many jump shots in forever," and added, "My percentages don’t look as good as I would like them to, but it’s the second game. I am taking jump shots, threes. I’m not just doing layups. That’s what comes with the territory."

Jackson’s role after Los Angeles

Trammell framed the change from her time in Los Angeles in simple terms: "Sometimes it’s not the right fit for the -organization or the player or whatever the case might be." Jackson filed a protective order this past winter, then moved on to Chicago, where the staff has treated her as a scorer and creator rather than a one-dimensional option.

The result is a better read on what the Sky have added. If Jackson keeps producing at 18.5 points per game while also making plays for others, Chicago has another perimeter threat defenses have to account for, and she has a role that asks for much more than finishing at the rim.
