Kitchener Rangers Sweep Barrie for Fifth Memorial Cup 2026

The Kitchener Rangers closed out memorial cup 2026 positioning with a 4-2 win over the Barrie Colts on May 16, 2026, completing a four-game sweep and claiming their fifth OHL championship. The finish sent Kitchener back to the Canadian Hockey League stage after an 18-year wait for another title.

Sadlon Arena Finish

Christian Humphreys tipped home a Carson Campbell point shot midway through the third period to put Kitchener ahead for good. Sam O’Reilly then scored into the empty net to seal the 4-2 final at Sadlon Arena before 4,367 fans.

Luca Romano and Gabriel Chiarot had already built a 2-0 lead for the Rangers, but Barrie answered through Emil Hemming and Eamon Edgar. Edgar’s goal was his first of the playoffs and tied the game before Kitchener broke it open again.

O’Reilly and the Playoff Run

O’Reilly finished with 28 points in 18 playoff games and was named OHL Playoff MVP. He also won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award. After the game, he said, “I’m just extremely grateful for the opportunities I’ve been able to have over the last three years”.

Kitchener finished the postseason 16-2, powered by a penalty kill that ran at 88.7 percent. The Rangers reached the championship round after a four-game sweep of the Saginaw Spirit, five-game series wins over the Soo Greyhounds and Windsor Spitfires, and then the sweep of Barrie.

Ahokas and Kitchener

Jussi Ahokas called the title “a dream come true” after his team finished the sweep. He also said, “How they committed to everything, all in all they loved to be with each other. Coming to a place where winning is a whole belief, we cherish winning here, it’s unbelievable.”

The championship came 18 years to the day after Kitchener’s previous OHL title in 2008 and gave the franchise its fifth J. Ross Robertson Cup. The Rangers now move on to the 2026 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota Canada, carrying a postseason run that ended with one more 4-2 result and a trophy that had been out of reach since 2008.
