Glan Taf Boys Choir joins Saturday's fourth semi-final on Britains Got Talent Tonight
Britains Got Talent Tonight moves into its fourth live semi-final on Saturday, May 16, and Glan Taf Boys Choir is in the line-up. The Cardiff school group will perform with a grand final place on the line as the season closes in on May 30.
Glan Taf Boys Choir on May 16
The fourth live semi-final will air at 6pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with the roster announced on Thursday, May 14. The show has already sent Matty Juniosa straight to the grand final through Amanda Holden's golden buzzer, while the rest of the field is still chasing one of the remaining places.
Glan Taf Boys Choir comes into the live round with a judge-friendly backstory. The choir, made up of pupils aged between 11 and 18, sang Never Enough from The Greatest Showman in its audition and drew four yeses from the panel.
Simon Cowell's prank reveal
Simon Cowell told the choir he had a "little surprise" for the other judges before revealing that the boys thought they were going to a statue unveiling for someone significant in music. The statue was actually Cowell, a neat bit of staging that gave the audition an extra layer before a note was sung.
After the performance, Amanda Holden said, "I love that song. The arrangement, the harmonising. I thought you did Wales proud." Alesha Dixon added, "I think a great choir needs a strong leader and Lloyd, you are a fantastic leader. I enjoyed watching you just as much as I did the choir."
Four yeses for Wales
Cowell said, "I actually got quite emotional, this was just brilliant. This is what a great choir is all about. Having fun. Great song choices. Great leader." He then told them, "You are going back to Wales with four gigantic yeses." For a choir carrying school-name recognition into a live ITV slot, that kind of panel response gives the semi-final more than routine filler value.
The weekend line-up also includes Epic Sax Guy, Kristel Herrera, Rafferty Coope, Ren DMC, Sonny Green, Wei Yamin and Welsch Master Team. Saturday's semi-final matters because it is one of the last steps before the May 30 final, where the winner takes £250,000 and a spot in the Royal Variety Performance.
