Celebrini Scores Twice as Canada Rolls 6-0 — Hockey Games Today
Macklin Celebrini powered hockey games today with two goals and an assist as Canada shut out Italy 6-0 at the world hockey championship on Saturday. The win moved Canada to 2-0 in Group B after a 5-3 opening victory over Sweden, giving it a strong start in the tournament.
Celebrini Drives Canada
Celebrini finished the job early and often. He scored on a one-timer from the right circle with 3:04 remaining in the opening period, then added his second at 2:09 in the second on a backhand shot high into the net.
Sidney Crosby had the first assist on Celebrini's second goal, and the captain's night also included an assist of his own. Canada spread the scoring across the lineup, with Dylan Holloway, Fraser Minten, Evan Bouchard and Ryan O’Reilly each adding a goal.
Talbot Holds Italy
Cam Talbot handled the rest. He made 19 saves for the shutout, keeping Italy off the board as Canada controlled the game through the first two periods.
Holloway scored after taking a pass from John Tavares in front of the goal, and Minten followed 47 seconds later on a rebound. Bouchard added a power-play goal in the second period, and O’Reilly scored later in the same period to extend the gap.
Canada Stays Perfect
Italy returned to the top division for the first time since 2022, but Canada never let the game tighten. Misha Donskov said, “I was really happy with our group’s effort,” and added, “Our message going into the game was to focus on our game and our structure, and the way that we want to play in this tournament.”
Canada now has two wins from two games in Group B and heads into Monday's matchup with Denmark carrying a 6-0 shutout and a balanced scoring sheet. The early results have put the Canadians in position to keep pace at the top of their group without needing one player to carry the load alone.
