Jesper Sørensen weighs Thomas Müller for Vancouver Vs Houston Dynamo

Vancouver vs Houston Dynamo lands Saturday at Shell Energy Stadium with the Whitecaps ending their Texas road trip after a humid midweek match. Jesper Sørensen has lineup decisions to make, and Thomas Müller could go nearly the full 90 minutes after a brief cameo in Frisco.

Thomas Müller and Cubas

Müller’s return from illness gives Vancouver a different option at the top end of the field. Sørensen may start him against Houston, while Cheikh Sabaly and Emmanuel Sabbi did not make much of an impact in the midweek match.

Andres Cubas also shapes the selection picture. He escaped serious damage after appearing to sustain a knee injury against FC Dallas on Wednesday and returned to training, but Oliver Larraz or Jeevan Badwal could replace him in the lineup if Sørensen decides to change the midfield.

Houston’s three-at-the-back look

Houston brings a narrow edge into the match: it has won three of its last five MLS games and remains the lone team left in MLS that has yet to draw. The Dynamo beat LAFC on Sunday before losing to Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, a swing that still leaves them near the bottom in goals per match.

Artur’s return from injury a few weeks ago has helped Houston settle. Ben Olson has leaned on a modified three-at-the-back shape that has alternated between a 3-4-3 and a 3-5-2, with Lawrence Ennali and Felipe Andrade working downfield from wide areas and Jack McGlynn, Mateusz Bogusz, and Guilherme used centrally.

Ranko Veselinovic back

Vancouver’s own injury picture is improving, which matters after the workload of three-match weeks. Ranko Veselinovic came off the bench on Wednesday after injury and looked like his old self, giving the Whitecaps another option as they try to manage the road-trip finish in Houston.

The matchup now turns on how Sørensen balances recovery against fatigue. With Cubas back in training and Müller available again, Vancouver has more choices than it did in Frisco, but the question is how much of the lineup can be pushed after a demanding week and whether that is enough to handle a Houston side that has started to find results without fixing its scoring issues.
