Quinn Hughes Open to Re-Signing as Nhl Scores Tonight Turns to Minnesota

Quinn Hughes said Friday that he is open to re-signing with Minnesota after nhl scores tonight turned on the Wild’s 4-3 overtime loss to Colorado in Game 5. The defenseman said the defeat was a tough one, but he made clear he likes the fit in Minnesota.

Hughes on Billy Guerin

“I mean, I really like it here,” Hughes said after the Wild were eliminated in the Western Conference Second Round. “We’ll see what Billy (Guerin, Wild general manager) wants to do,” he added, then said, “Again, we’re not even 36 hours removed so, it's a tough loss but I would definitely be open to re-signing here.”

That puts Minnesota’s offseason planning in focus. Hughes can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026-27 season, but he is eligible to sign a long-term deal with the Wild on July 1.

Wild Add Hughes in December

Minnesota got him from Vancouver on Dec. 12 in a trade that sent Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft back to the Canucks. Hughes had 23 points with Vancouver before the deal and then produced 53 points in 48 regular-season games with the Wild.

He also finished with 15 points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games for Minnesota, plus eight points in six games for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Wild still finished third in the Central Division and beat the Dallas Stars in six games before the run ended against Colorado.

Playoff Losses Pile Up

Minnesota’s postseason was also hit by injuries. Joel Eriksson Ek broke his right heel in Game 6 of the first round against Dallas, and Jonas Brodin broke the bone in his big toe in his right foot in Game 5 against the Stars.

Hughes, the 2023-24 Norris Trophy winner, said he has trust in Guerin and in the way the Wild are built. “I have a lot of trust in Billy and respect him. The way he views building a championship team (in Minnesota), the players that we need, that's how I view things,” he said. “He's a great person, too. Just takes care of the players. I want to win and he wants to win more than anyone. I don’t think there are many people more disappointed than him right now. He’s going to do everything he can to make us a championship team and that makes me excited.”
