Saudi Court Sets May 17 Moon Sight for Eid Ul Adha 2026

Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court called on Muslims across the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon for eid ul adha 2026 on the evening of Sunday, May 17, 2026. Anyone who sees it with the naked eye or through binoculars was urged to report to the nearest court and register a testimony.

The court said Sunday, May 17, 2026, is the official date for sighting the Dhul Hijjah crescent. The beginning of Dhul Hijjah determines the timing of Hajj and Eid Al-Adha across the Islamic world.

Saudi Supreme Court ruling No. 206/H

The announcement followed Supreme Court ruling No. 206/H dated 29/10/1447H. The ruling declared Saturday, April 18, 2026, as the completion of Shawwal and Sunday, April 19, 2026, as the first day of Dhul Qadah.

By the court’s calendar determination, Sunday, May 17, 2026, falls on the 29th of Dhul Qadah. Under Umm Al-Qura calendar calculations, the same date corresponds to the 30th.

Moon sighting in the Kingdom

The Supreme Court also told people to contact the nearest center for assistance in reaching the court. It encouraged individuals capable of moon sighting to join regional moon-sighting committees, turning the announcement into a call for direct participation rather than a passive notice.

That leaves the evening of May 17 as the operative moment for the Kingdom’s moon-sighting process. For Muslims following Saudi Arabia’s calendar determination, the sighting result will set the dates that follow for Dhul Hijjah, Hajj, and Eid Al-Adha.
