Plymouth Half Marathon Draws 10,000+ to 17 May 2026 Festival
The plymouth half marathon returned on Sunday 17 May 2026 as part of Britain's Ocean City Running Festival, with 10,000+ runners and over 30,000 spectators in Plymouth, Devon. The event used closed roads across the city and seafront, making it Devon's biggest running event.
Plymouth Hoe Promenade Start
The half marathon, 10K and 5K all started from Plymouth Hoe Promenade. Run Plymouth and Taurus Events organised the races, and the half marathon was chip-timed over 13.1mi.
The scale was the clearest sign of how much ground the event covered. More than 30,000 spectators lined the route while the races brought thousands of runners into the city on the same day.
Royal Citadel To Smeaton's Tower
The half marathon route passed the Royal Citadel, The Barcode, Drake's Circus, Theatre Royal, Saltram Estate and Smeaton's Tower before finishing on the seafront past Smeaton's Tower. That route tied the race to Plymouth landmarks and kept the finish on the waterfront.
The 10K offered a flatter, faster alternative around the city and seafront. For runners choosing between the two distances, that was the main route difference on a day built around the same start point and the same closed-road setup.
Devon's Biggest Running Event
The festival's size set it apart from a standard local road race. With 10,000+ runners and over 30,000 spectators, the event packed the city long before the first finishers reached the seafront.
For anyone heading to future editions, the key practical details are the date, the start at Plymouth Hoe Promenade and the range of distances on offer: the half marathon, 10K and 5K.
