Tommy Conway Ruled Out of Scotland’s World Cup Finals

tommy conway is out of Scotland's World Cup finals after his ankle injury was set to require surgery. The Middlesbrough striker had only recently returned to the Scotland setup, but that run has ended before Steve Clarke names his squad.

Clarke’s 26-man call

Clarke will confirm his 26-man Scotland squad on Sunday, then submit his final selection on Tuesday. Conway’s absence strips one option from the manager’s plans just 48 hours before the deadline, and it comes as Scotland prepare for their first World Cup finals in 28 years.

Conway’s setback in March

Conway featured for Scotland in the March friendlies against Japan and Ivory Coast, which marked his place back in the picture. That made last week’s injury harder to absorb: he was forced off in tears during Middlesbrough’s Championship play-off final against Southampton.

Sky Sports said the ankle problem will require surgery, ending any chance of inclusion for the tournament. Scotland open their World Cup group stage against Haiti in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, and Clarke now has one less forward to weigh before his final list goes in.
