Lamine Camara Draws Newcastle United Into €45m Race
Newcastle United are being described as the leading contenders to sign lamine camara from Monaco this summer, with the Premier League club now among the sides showing the strongest intent. The 22-year-old midfielder is under contract until 2029 and is rated in the €45m bracket.
That makes the chase more than routine scouting. Camara has more than 50 senior caps for Senegal, can play as either a No.6 or a No.8, and has drawn interest from Liverpool as well as several other Premier League clubs.
Newcastle's France trips
Newcastle scouts have made regular trips to France throughout 2026 to monitor him closely, and the club were represented at the Stade Louis II when Lille beat Monaco 1-0. Camara and Maghnes Akliouche both played the full 90 minutes in that match, giving Newcastle another live look at a player they have tracked for a prolonged period.
Liverpool have watched him closely too, while Manchester United and Arsenal have tracked him over a longer stretch. Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton, Brentford and West Ham have also watched him extensively during the current campaign, which shows how broad the interest has become around a midfielder Monaco signed in 2024.
Monaco and the England move
Within football circles there is a strong expectation that Camara is highly likely to move to England this summer if the right proposal arrives. Monaco are fully aware of the mounting interest, and Newcastle's pursuit sits alongside their search for midfield reinforcements rather than any move tied to Sandro Tonali leaving St James' Park.
Publicly, Newcastle still regard Tonali as central to their long-term plans, but the Camara interest points to how seriously they are preparing for the market. For a 22-year-old with a €45m valuation, a 2029 contract and more than 50 senior Senegal caps, this is the type of deal that can move quickly once one club is willing to meet the price.
