Soldier Dies After Fall at Royal Windsor Horse Show

A soldier from The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery died after falling from a horse at the royal windsor horse show on Friday 15 May. The rider was given immediate medical treatment after the fall at around 19:00 BST, but died at the scene.

Thames Valley Police said it is treating the death as unexplained but non-suspicious. Ch Supt Michael Loebenberg said officers have not found any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and police are working with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch and organisers HPower to gather information about how it happened.

The Army said the service person died after a tragic incident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show and said the family has been notified. Buckingham Palace said the King was shocked and saddened to learn of the death, and the royal spokesperson added: "While His Majesty and other Members of The Royal Family were present at the arena at the time the incident took place, they were not made aware of the severity of the situation until later."

The four-day Royal Windsor Horse Show continued as planned, but The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display was omitted after the death. That left the event running on without one of its scheduled military displays while police continued their inquiries into how the fall unfolded after the rider left the arena.
