Hurricanes Get May 21 Start in 2026 Nhl Conference Finals Schedule

The Carolina Hurricanes will take the ice again on Thursday, May 21, when the 2026 nhl conference finals schedule opens Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final at Carolina. The date gives the top seed a clear target after a long wait between rounds, and it locks in home ice for the first two games.

Carolina Gets May 21

Carolina had not played since May 9, when it swept the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, and the Hurricanes entered the schedule release at 8-0 in the playoffs. The team is in the Eastern Conference Final for the third time in four seasons, still chasing a return to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

The NHL released two possible Eastern Conference Final schedules before Thursday’s Game 5 between Montreal and Buffalo, then the series flipped again. Montreal beat Buffalo 6-3 on Thursday night to take a 3-2 series lead, Buffalo answered with an 8-3 win in Game 6, and the Sabres and Canadiens will meet in a winner-take-all Game 7 on Monday.

Raleigh Hosts Games 1 And 2

Carolina will host Games 1 and 2, and if the series reaches the full seven games it will also host Games 5 and 7. Game 2 is set for Saturday, May 23, while Game 3 is scheduled for Monday, May 25 at BUF/MON and Game 4 follows on Wednesday, May 27 at BUF/MON.

If needed, Game 5 is Friday, May 29 at Carolina, Game 6 is Sunday, May 31 at BUF/MON, and Game 7 would return to Carolina on Tuesday, June 2. The Hurricanes hold home-ice advantage against either Montreal or Buffalo because they are the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Canadiens Or Sabres

The matchup will not be set until Monday’s Game 7, but the path for Carolina already is mapped out. The Western Conference Final begins on May 20, one day before the Hurricanes open their series, and a potential Game 7 there would be played on June 1.

For Carolina, the practical change is simple: the waiting ends Thursday in Raleigh, and the first two games stay at home. After that, the series shifts to BUF/MON, with the later games available only if the best-of-seven runs deep enough to need them.
