Chayce Mcdermott Joins Dodgers After Dreyer Hits 15-Day IL

Jack Dreyer went on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder discomfort, and chayce mcdermott moved into the Dodgers’ bullpen mix the same day. Charlie Barnes also went back to Oklahoma City after a two-day stay.

McDermott and Gervase Arrive

The Dodgers called up McDermott and Paul Gervase from Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 26, giving them two fresh arms after another round of roster churn. Dreyer’s move created the opening, and Barnes was optioned after pitching on both Friday and Saturday.

“First time on the IL as a pro for Dreyer. Charlie Barnes also optioned to Oklahoma City”

Dreyer’s Run Ends

Dreyer had tied for the Dodgers team lead with 20 appearances and worked 21 2/3 innings with a 2.08 ERA and a 2.73 xERA. He struck out 24 and walked six before his first career injured-list stint in the majors or minors.

His last outing came Friday, when he threw a scoreless eighth inning with two strikeouts and one walk. That appearance came while the Dodgers were already leaning hard on the staff, with eight pitchers covering nine innings in a game after Blake Snell went on the injured list with loose bodies in his left elbow.

Oklahoma City Relief Options

McDermott came to the Dodgers from the Baltimore Orioles on April 16 in a trade for minor league pitcher Axel Perez. In Triple-A this season between Norfolk and Oklahoma City, he posted a 5.27 ERA with 25 strikeouts and 14 walks in 13 2/3 innings, and he has not allowed a home run.

He last pitched Tuesday, when he threw a scoreless inning for the Comets on 12 pitches. Gervase last pitched Thursday for Oklahoma City, allowing three runs in 1 2/3 innings on 33 pitches.

Gervase had been optioned last Sunday and returned before his 15 days on optional assignment were up because Dreyer replaced him on the injured list. For the Dodgers, that sequence left the bullpen with one more injury-driven reset and two relievers available to absorb the next innings.
