He also said the baby reacts differently to him than his two daughters did, with roughhousing bringing out smiles and giggles that have made the first months at home look nothing like the earlier stages of fatherhood.
“He’s fun, though, man. He smiles a lot. He giggles. I’ve got him to where—it’s really different because with my girls, it was always they were very snuggly with dad and ‘Oh, daddy’s beautiful little girl.’ And him, like the rougher I am with him the more he laughs. Like I can grab him by the feet and scare him, and he giggles and smiles. Then he gets with mom and is a little tiny baby, awe,” Johnson said shortly after Jaycee’s birth.
Carla and Cori Step In
Johnson said his two daughters, Carla and Cori, are stepping into their roles as big sisters. That matters inside the household because the family is now managing a shift from a family of four to a family of five, with a first son joining the two girls who already had their own routines with dad.
He has described the girls as “daddy’s little girls” who loved to cuddle and snuggle up, which makes Jaycee’s pattern stand out even more. Instead of the same closeness Johnson got from his daughters, he now gets the baby’s biggest reaction only after Brandi enters the room.
ACM Awards Family Reveal
Last summer, the Johnsons used the ACM Awards to let the industry know the family was growing. Brandi Johnson debuted her baby bump there, and the couple announced they were expecting their first son, a public milestone that set up the October arrival of Jaycee Daniel Johnson.
Johnson has also tied the baby’s name to the family ranch. Jaycee came from the way people mispronounced J Bar C Ranch as JC, and Johnson has said the family hopes the boy will one day take over the ranch land. For now, though, the most immediate verdict is simpler: at 6 months old, Jaycee is thriving, Brandi is still the favorite, and Johnson knows exactly where he stands in the house.
