Albert Riera Sacked After 14 Bundesliga Games at Eintracht Frankfurt

albert riera is out at Eintracht Frankfurt after Saturday’s final-day draw with VfB Stuttgart, ending his short spell in charge with the club outside Europe. The split came immediately after the season closed, with Frankfurt finishing eighth and missing European qualification for the first time since the 2020/21 season.

Riera’s 14-game spell

Riera won four of his 14 Bundesliga games in charge. He also drew five and lost five, a record that left Frankfurt short when the table tightened late in the season.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche said the club and Riera had mutually decided to terminate their working relationship with immediate effect. He added that Riera, Pablo Remon Arteta and Lorenzo Dolcetti would be wished all the best for their personal and professional futures.

Frankfurt’s late slide

The club were seventh and two points clear of Freiburg after Matchday 29, but they dropped away badly after that. Frankfurt picked up only one point from their final five fixtures, and Freiburg passed them for seventh spot and a place in next season’s UEFA Conference League.

Riera was appointed in January after Eintracht’s inconsistent start to the season under Dino Toppmöller. His exit comes after a stretch that never steadied the campaign enough to hold off the late surge from Freiburg.

Krösche and Riera part

Krösche said Riera had taken charge during a difficult period and had worked with diligence and commitment. He also said the club had reached its conclusion after an open and honest review of its sporting progress and wanted a different direction for the coming season.

Riera said the club and he had mutually agreed to part ways and that he took full responsibility for the team’s results. He said his focus had been on improving the team and protecting the club and players, and added that he was grateful to have been part of Eintracht Frankfurt's history.
