Shona Manderson in Panorama probe as BBC airs three-women claims
shona manderson is named in tonight’s Panorama investigation into Married at First Sight UK, which examines allegations from three women that their former on-screen husbands sexually misconducted them. Two of the women say they were sexually assaulted, and the men deny all the allegations.
Noor Nanji and the three women
Noor Nanji speaks to the three women in the programme, which is set to air tonight. The investigation centres on welfare procedures on the reality series and the claim that they failed contributors, leaving them at risk of harm.
Channel 4 and CPL, the independent production company that makes the series, say the welfare protocols are robust and comprehensive. That response sits alongside the women’s allegations, giving the broadcast a clear clash between duty-of-care claims and the experiences described by former participants.
Shona Manderson and earlier complaints
In 2023, Channel 4 said Brad Skelly and shona manderson were asked to leave the experiment after their relationship was deemed unhealthy. That earlier intervention now sits inside a wider pattern of welfare scrutiny around the series.
The show has faced several controversies over the years. In 2022, George Roberts was arrested for alleged controlling and coercive behaviour after appearing on Married at First Sight UK with April Banbury, and three of his ex-partners reportedly told the programme’s bosses that they had previously complained to police about his behaviour.
Police decided no further action should be taken after investigating Roberts. In 2024, Refuge spoke out after a confrontation between Alex Henry and Holly Ditchfield at one of the show’s dinner parties, saying it had concerns about contestants displaying behaviours it recognised as abusive and partners appearing distressed and victimised as a result.
Channel 4, CPL and tonight
The immediate question for the series is not whether it can keep leaning on the same welfare language, but whether a public broadcaster will keep airing a franchise that keeps returning to the same complaints. Tonight’s Panorama episode puts those claims on air with three named accounts, two allegations of sexual assault, and a direct challenge to the way the show says it protects contributors.
