Siaosi Mariner Set for Cfl Preseason Start Against Calgary
Siaosi Mariner is set to start at boundary-side wide receiver for Saskatchewan in Monday’s cfl preseason game against the host Calgary Stampeders. It is his first game in 11 months and a direct chance to win a roster spot after spending part of last season on the Roughriders’ practice roster.
Mariner Back in Saskatchewan
Mariner said during Coors Light Training Camp that, "This will be my first CFL game in about two years and my first game in 11 months, so I’m ready to lay it all out there and earn my spot on the team." He also said, "Everybody on the team was super-welcoming."
The Roughriders’ decision puts him into the lineup at a position where he will be asked to handle real snaps immediately. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m., and it will be available on CKRM and CFL+.
Mace Values Mariner
Corey Mace has seen enough to trust him in the opener. "He has been really, really good for us," the head coach said. "He’s always available. He’s reliable. He’s an A-1 human being. He just does his job and when the plays have come to him, he has been making them."
Mariner’s path back to this point runs through Ottawa and Michigan. He was with the Ottawa REDBLACKS in 2022 and 2023, spent the next two seasons with Michigan, and led the UFL in receiving yards with 527 in 10 games in 2025.
Mariner’s Last Pro Game
His last professional game came in the 2025 United Football League championship game against the DC Defenders, when he caught a 38-yard touchdown pass and finished with four receptions for 84 yards. Later in 2025, he signed with Saskatchewan and joined the practice roster, then was on hand for the Roughriders’ 25-17 Grey Cup victory over the Montreal Alouettes on Nov. 16.
Mariner called the route back to Saskatchewan unusual but fitting. "I actually texted Coach Mace and it was the coolest ‘no’ I ever got from anybody," he said, adding later, "Two years later, I’m dabbing up Coach Mace heading into the Saskatchewan facility."
