Gio Urshela Retires After 10 MLB Seasons
gio urshela has retired from baseball after 10 Major League Baseball seasons. He announced the move on his Instagram page, ending a career that started in 2015 and finished in 2025 with the Athletics.
Urshela paired the announcement with a message for fans, his family and everyone he met along the way, along with the words “Siempre Agradecido,” or “Forever Grateful.” The retirement closes the book at 34 years old after 851 MLB games.
Yankees Years Defined His Rise
Three of those 10 seasons came with the New York Yankees, where Urshela became best known for his production. In 291 games with New York, he posted 6.4 bWAR, 296 hits, 63 doubles, 41 homers, 153 RBIs, a.292 average and an.815 OPS.
His Yankees run also carried into October. He hit two homers and finished with a.740 OPS in the 2019 postseason, then produced a.636 OPS across 17 playoff games overall.
From Cleveland to Athletics
Urshela began his MLB career with the Cleveland Guardians in 2015 and spent two seasons there before a one-year stop with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. He then spent the 2019 through 2021 seasons in New York before moving through the rest of his career one season at a time.
After the Yankees, he played for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves and Athletics. That path left him with a career that stretched across six teams and ended with a final season in 2025.
For Yankees fans, the retirement hits a familiar name from the infield and a player remembered for steady production across three seasons. His Instagram post leaves the final word simple: “Siempre Agradecido.”
