Hannibal Mejbri included as Tunisia name 26-man World Cup squad
hannibal mejbri is in Tunisia’s 26-man World Cup squad, giving the Norwich City midfielder a place in Sabri Lamouchi’s final group announced Friday afternoon. The selection sends him to a second World Cup finals and keeps him in line for Tunisia’s tournament in North America next month.
Lamouchi Keeps Slimane in
Ben Slimane was included in the Tunisian Football Federation’s final selection, a sign that his recent club form has carried into the national-team picture. He ended the season with 11 goal contributions in 26 appearances across all competitions, then returned to the squad during the March international break after not featuring since June 2025.
The 25-year-old had already shown he can handle the World Cup stage. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he played 83 minutes in Tunisia’s 1-0 win over France and 67 minutes in the goalless draw against Denmark.
Tunisia’s North America Schedule
Tunisia open against Sweden at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico on June 15, then face Japan at the same venue on June 21. The group ends with the Netherlands at Kansas City Stadium in the United States on June 26.
That schedule gives Ben Slimane another chance to add to the role he already filled in Qatar, where Tunisia took four points from three group-stage games and finished third behind France and Australia before going out. Tunisia are preparing for their seventh World Cup and are still chasing a first place in the knockout stages.
Ben Slimane’s World Cup Return
Ben Slimane said in Norwich City’s official matchday programme in December, “My motivation was to get back fit and ready for the minutes I’m going to get, and also, I know there is a World Cup coming up in the summer; that is something that I really want to be part of. To do that, I have to perform for the club."
He has done enough to earn the call again. Now Tunisia carry that selection into a three-match group in Mexico and the United States, with Ben Slimane back in a squad built to push beyond the first round for the first time.
