Calfire Stops 80-Acre Pass Fire Near Livermore
calfire crews responded just after noon Sunday to a vegetation fire on Altamont Pass Road in Livermore, and the blaze grew from less than 5 acres to 80 acres by 1:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol closed Altamont Pass Road between Carroll and Grant Line Road as crews worked the fire about 7.5 miles northeast of Livermore.
CAL FIRE said the Pass Fire was about 30% contained as of about 2 p.m. The agency said, “Firefighters will be on scene strengthening containment lines and putting out hot spots throughout the day.”
Altamont Pass Road Closure
The closure cut off a route between Livermore and the Mountain House/Tracy area. Altamont Pass Road runs just north of Interstate Highway 580, and the shutdown affected drivers using that east-west corridor while crews kept working the fire.
A Red Flag Warning was active Saturday through Monday, with the National Weather Service forecasting low humidity and high winds between 20 and 30 mph. PG&E advised of possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs because of the wildfire risk, and pockets of dozens of customers in the Pass Fire area lost power before the fire was fully contained.
PG&E Shutoffs
Some customers north of the fire across the Contra Costa County line and farther east south of Tracy were without power because of the shutoffs, along with some customers in Solano County and eastern Napa County. PG&E said power will stay off for those customers until local weather conditions change, leaving the road closure and the shutoffs as the two immediate disruptions tied to the fire.
