Blue Jays Vs Yankees Returns as Toronto Revisits Yankee Stadium
blue jays vs yankees is back in the Bronx seven months after Toronto knocked New York out of the ALDS. The Blue Jays opened a four-game regular-season series with a 21-25 record while the Yankees entered at 28-19 and 6.5 games ahead.
Guerrero Jr. Sets the Tone
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. brushed aside the October result and said the group is looking only at the series in front of it. Through interpreter Hector Lebron, he said, "It’s in the past" and added, "We as a team are very focused on trying to win the series. That’s all we have in mind right now."
That approach fits a Toronto club returning to Yankee Stadium for the first time since its postseason win. The last trip came in a four-game Division Series that Toronto won, and this regular-season visit comes with a different roster and a different order in the standings.
Gausman and Schneider Move On
Kevin Gausman called the Blue Jays’ last visit to Yankee Stadium "a great time," but he said the team has already moved on. "I think we've done a good job of turning the page," he said. "It's a new year, you know? We can be excited about that, but we’ve got to be ready for them. They're a really good team."
John Schneider was even more direct: "Last year’s over." He called the playoff win "Yeah, it was fun" and then added that this is "a totally different season and a totally different group of guys."
Cease, Miles and the New Mix
The pitching plan shows how much has changed. Three of the four pitchers likely to start against the Yankees were not on the Blue Jays’ roster last fall, while Wednesday starter Trey Yesavage was the only one who had appeared against New York in October, though not at Yankee Stadium.
Dylan Cease, who played for another organization in 2025, said the setting does not change his job. "I’m just going there to do my best to win," he said. "I don’t really care about any of the other stuff." He added, "I’ve pitched there before. I’ve pitched against the Yankees a bunch. It’s really the same thing, just a new uniform and a new team to fight for."
Spencer Miles, a Rule 5 pick who made his MLB debut in March, was likely to handle bulk duties Thursday opposite Carlos Rodon. Cease called Yankee Stadium "a big stage" and said, "You can really feed off of that when it’s intense."
For Toronto, the series is less about the October memory than the gap on the scoreboard. The Yankees are ahead in the division race now, and the Blue Jays need results in the Bronx if they want the matchup to look anything like the one they won last fall.
