Zohran Mamdani Flags $13,000 Knicks Cavaliers Vs Knicks Seats
Knicks Cavaliers Vs Knicks Game 1 at Madison Square Garden is already pricing out plenty of fans, with nosebleed seats listed at at least $570 before fees and better-located upper-level seats pushing past $700. Lower-bowl and courtside options have climbed over $13,000 as New York chases its first NBA Finals berth since 1999.
Mamdamni on Knicks Prices
Zohran Mamdani said the speed of the climb has turned sports into something many constituents cannot reach. “We have seen sports become more and more of a luxury commodity, and that is not what it always used to be,” he said in mid-April, adding, “I am still confident and hopeful of a championship this year. I do wish, however, that all of these tickets were far more affordably priced.”
He also said, “I think that there are many New Yorkers for whom the game is something that is celebrated across the entire city.” “When the Knicks do well, you feel it across this whole city,” he added. “And it’s not just for those who can afford to go to the game.”
Cleveland, Oklahoma City, San Antonio
The gap between New York and the other conference finals markets is wide. Game 3 tickets in Cleveland opened at $294 on StubHub, with courtside seats reaching $5,567. In Oklahoma City, nosebleeds were still as cheap as $177 before tipoff, while the most expensive ticket there cost $3,216.
San Antonio showed a similar spread. Game 3 tickets between the Spurs and Thunder were listed as low as $311 for nosebleeds, while seats just under the basket at the Frost Bank Center were running for upwards of just over $8,000. By comparison, a Game 5 in Oklahoma City would cost at least $299, while the cheapest seats at Madison Square Garden for a Game 5, if necessary, were listed at $796.
1999 Knicks Ticket Prices
The current market looks nothing like the one that surrounded New York’s 1999 run. That season, the average Knicks season ticket price was $79 per game, and a courtside seat to the NBA Finals in New York cost $2,700. In San Antonio, the same type of seat cost $500.
The Knicks became the first No. 8 seed to reach the NBA Finals in 1999 and lost to the Spurs in five games. This year’s prices show how far the franchise’s playoff demand has moved since then, with even the cheapest Game 5 seats in Manhattan sitting above what many fans paid for premium access a generation ago.
