Whio-tv: Dayton Public Schools closes 2 schools May 19

whio-tv reports Dayton Public Schools will close Thurgood Marshall STEM High School and Westwood Elementary School on May 19 because of problems with the buildings' air conditioning systems. The district said repairs at both schools are expected to be completed quickly.

Thurgood Marshall STEM High School

Thurgood Marshall STEM High School is one of the two buildings included in the closure, and the district tied the decision directly to the air conditioning issues inside the school. Storm Center 7 meteorologists said temperatures were expected to reach around 86 degrees on Tuesday.

Westwood Elementary School

Westwood Elementary School will also be closed May 19 for the same reason. For families at both schools, the district's plan points to a short interruption rather than a longer shutdown, with repairs anticipated quickly at each building.

Dayton Public Schools

Dayton Public Schools said the closure affects two schools and applies on May 19. The district's announcement leaves students and families with a clear immediate step: do not report to Thurgood Marshall STEM High School or Westwood Elementary School that day.
