Rj Luis Jr. Commits To LSU After G-League Stint

rj luis Jr. is heading back to college, and LSU is the landing spot. The 6-foot-7 guard committed to the Tigers after a brief professional run that included a two-way deal, a trade to the Boston Celtics, and a waiver before the NBA season.

For LSU, the move adds a player who was the 2025 Big East Player of the Year and a consensus second-team All-American at St. John’s. It also gives the Tigers another experienced piece in an offseason class that already includes several transfers and international additions.

RJ Luis Jr. and LSU

RJ Luis Jr. committed to LSU after first being reported as a return-to-college addition for the Tigers. The former St. John’s standout played three college seasons from 2022 to 2025, spending one season at UMass and two at St. John’s before his pro detour.

He entered the 2025 NBA Draft, went undrafted, then signed a two-way deal with the Utah Jazz in July 2025. That path moved him to the Boston Celtics before the start of the NBA season, and he later signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Boston before being waived because of a groin injury that required surgery.

St. John's production

At St. John’s, Luis put up 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his junior season. Those numbers came in the same year he was named the 2025 Big East Player of the Year.

That run helped make him one of the most recognizable names in LSU’s offseason build. The Tigers have now added their sixth pickup of the offseason, alongside Abdi Bashir Jr., Divine Ugochukwu, Austin Nunez, Mouhamed Dioubate, Marcio Santos, and Yam Madar.

LSU's offseason class

Will Wade’s roster continues to take shape around transfers and international players, with Luis bringing the most recent high-profile return to the college game. The headline for LSU is simple: a 6-foot-7 scorer with major-conference honors is back in the pool, and the Tigers used the offseason to get him.

What he can be for LSU now comes down to the same thing that made him valuable at St. John’s — production. He arrives with a recent professional track, major awards, and enough college experience to fit into a roster that already has six new additions.
