The Rajasthan Royals batter is 15, and his IPL 2026 form has pushed the conversation beyond age and into the actual opening available on the depth chart.

“Of course, he should play for India. Why not? What do you need to play for your country? You need to perform against top players and top teams, which he is already doing in the IPL. Now, it comes down to team combinations and how the team thinks. If we are talking about whether he is ready or not, I would say try him out if there is a spot,” Sharma said.
That is a direct call for selectors and team management to put Sooryavanshi into the mix rather than keep him on the edge of it. Sharma framed the issue around performance, not age, and used the IPL as the proof point.
Sooryavanshi's IPL 2026 burst
The numbers back the argument. Sooryavanshi is sixth on the Orange Cap table with 486 runs in 12 matches, a 40.50 average and a 234.78 strike-rate. He has also posted two fifties and one century.
He first appeared in the IPL as a 14-year-old in IPL 2025, and the step up since then has been sharp. A 15-year-old batter sitting inside the top six run-scorers changes the way his name is discussed, especially when the strike-rate is this high and the century is already in the column.
India-A Sri Lanka route
The immediate pathway already mentioned is India-A's June 2026 tour of Sri Lanka, where Tilak Varma will lead and Riyan Parag will serve as vice-captain. The tri-series runs from 9 June 2026 to 21 June 2026 and will include Sri Lanka-A and Afghanistan-A in a double round-robin group stage before a final.
India-A are also scheduled to play two four-day unofficial Tests against Sri Lanka-A, and Sooryavanshi has been called up for the tri-series. Whether he appears in the four-day matches is not immediately clear, but the call-up keeps him in the national pathway while the IPL numbers keep stacking up behind him.
