Man City Games: Guardiola Cuts Arsenal Lead to 2 Points With 3-0 Win

Man City games tightened the title race again on Wednesday, with Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace cutting Arsenal’s lead to two points. Mikel Arteta now has two league matches left to protect a slim edge that had been five points after Arsenal beat West Ham United last Sunday.

Manchester City reached that position by beating Brentford 3-0 the previous evening, then backing it up against Palace. Pep Guardiola’s side now sit two points behind Arsenal with two games each remaining, and the margin could disappear fast if City keep winning.

Guardiola’s City Move Again

The Palace result did more than trim the gap. City are now one ahead on goal difference and seven better on goals scored, so a level finish would not leave Arsenal with a clean escape route.

Arsenal go to Burnley at home tomorrow, then City visit Bournemouth 24 hours later. If City beat Bournemouth, the title race goes to the final day next Sunday, when City host Aston Villa and Arsenal play Crystal Palace.

Arsenal Face Burnley First

Arteta’s side still control the lead, but only narrowly. A draw with Burnley and a City win at Bournemouth would leave both teams on 80 points heading into the final day.

That leaves Arsenal needing to handle their own result before worrying about what City do away from home. The 22-year wait for an English title is still alive, but the last 19 games of the season have already narrowed into a two-team finish.

Villa And Palace On Final Day

The run-in now points to May 24, when the season is due to finish on the final round of fixtures. City’s home match against Aston Villa and Arsenal’s trip to Crystal Palace are the matches that could settle it if the gap stays tight through the weekend.

For both clubs, the next two matches carry the most weight: Arsenal need points to stay ahead, and City need Bournemouth to keep the pressure on until Sunday.
