Rodri Faces Real Madrid Talk With One Year Left at City
rodri has one year left on his Manchester City contract, and talks over a new deal have stalled. That leaves the club facing a summer in which Real Madrid interest could turn a long-running doubt into a real decision.
Rodri and the Bernabeu
The midfielder has already said the pull would be hard to resist. In March, he said that “no player in the world would be able to turn down a move to the Bernabeu,” and during the last international break he added that any player would find it hard to turn down a move to Real Madrid.
He did not stop there. Rodri also said, “Obviously, there will be talk about his future because he is entering the final year of his contract and still there’s been no agreement over a new deal to extend his stay at the Etihad.” He added, “Until this contract situation is sorted out at Manchester City, the speculation will continue to ramp up and intensify.”
Manchester City Contract Stalemate
City want to accelerate those talks before the end of this campaign, but the lack of an agreement has left the club open to the summer noise around its midfield anchor. Their transfer plans are unlikely to involve selling Rodri, yet the absence of a signed extension has created the space for outside clubs to push.
The 29-year-old has also fought for fitness this season and has missed over 80 games for club and country across the last two seasons. That is the practical complication inside the contract issue: City are trying to secure a player they value highly while dealing with a body of work that already includes long stretches away from the team.
Anderson Transfer Plans
Manchester City have already registered interest in Anderson ahead of the summer, and the Nottingham Forest and England midfielder has emerged as one of the most in-demand players in his position this season. Anderson could move to the Etihad Stadium as a replacement for Rodri if the stalemate drags on.
Manchester United have also been linked with Anderson as a possible replacement for Casemiro, while City sources expect United to move for him in the coming months because of the huge fee involved. For City, the picture is straightforward: extend Rodri now, or spend the summer planning around the possibility that Real Madrid get a cleaner path to him than anyone expected.
