Manchester City Face Bournemouth Test in Premier League Winners Race
Manchester City head to Bournemouth needing a win to keep the premier league winners race alive. If Pep Guardiola’s team do not win on Tuesday night, Arsenal can wrap up the title without kicking another ball.
Guardiola at Bournemouth
City kick off at 7.30pm and know exactly what the table demands. A draw is not enough, because it would leave them four points behind with one game left. Win at Bournemouth and they can drag the title race to the final day, but even then they would still need to beat Aston Villa on Sunday and hope Arsenal do not win at Crystal Palace.
Guardiola’s side have no room for a cautious night. Their path is narrow: victory at the Vitality Stadium, then another at Villa, then help from Palace. Anything less before Sunday ends their title chase early and hands Arsenal the cleaner route to the trophy.
Arsenal and Liverpool pressure
Arsenal moved five points clear with victory over Burnley on Monday night, which is why City’s visit to Bournemouth has become the deciding fixture of the week. Arsenal can win the Premier League title on Tuesday if City fail to take three points. Liverpool, meanwhile, will join the Champions League places if Bournemouth lose.
That leaves Bournemouth with something to play for beyond the title story. A draw would leave them needing to win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday and rely on Liverpool losing to Brentford with a six-goal swing in goal difference. A Bournemouth victory would move them a point behind Liverpool and guarantee at least sixth place.
Chelsea host Tottenham
The same night brings another sharp swing in the table at 8.15pm, when Chelsea host Tottenham. Spurs can secure their Premier League status and relegate West Ham with a victory, which would move them five points clear of the bottom three with one game remaining. A draw would all but save Tottenham.
West Ham still have a route, but it is tight. They would need to beat Leeds on Sunday, hope Tottenham lose to Everton and overturn a 13-goal swing in goal difference. The league’s title race may grab the headline, but the relegation fight and Liverpool’s European push can both be shaped by the same Tuesday night results.
