Durkin, CITY SC Ready for Houston Dynamo Vs St. Louis Quarterfinal

St. Louis CITY SC has a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal at home Tuesday, with houston dynamo vs st. louis set for 7:00 p.m. CT at Energizer Park. CITY SC reached this stage for the first time by beating Chicago Fire FC 2-1 on April 29, and now gets a chance to go one round deeper in a knockout run that has already broken new ground for the club.

Durkin Adds to CITY SC Form

Chris Durkin gave CITY SC a lift last Saturday in MLS play, scoring his second goal of the season and eighth in his MLS career in a 1-1 draw with D.C. United at Audi Field. That result left CITY SC and D.C. United tied 0-0-2 in their all-time series.

Durkin’s goal is part of a stretch that has kept St. Louis in competitive form entering the cup match. The draw in Washington came after the club’s 2-1 win over Chicago Fire FC, where Anton Salétros opened the scoring in the 64th minute before Tomas Totland equalized in the 71st minute and Eduard Löwen finished it in the 78th.

Energizer Park Edge

St. Louis has faced Houston eight previous times across all competitions and holds a 3-3-2 record. At Energizer Park, the numbers are better: St. Louis is 3-1-0 against Houston and has scored 10 goals in those four matches.

Houston arrives with its own cup path already mapped out. The Dynamo opened the tournament at home against USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive and won 4-1, then beat Louisville City FC 2-1 behind goals from Erik Sviatchenko and Ezequiel Ponce.

Houston’s Road Test

Houston also comes in after a 1-0 league win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC, with Guilherme Santos scoring the stoppage-time goal. He leads the Dynamo with seven goals and five assists, and Houston sits in 6th place in the Western Conference with 21 points and a 7-6-0 record.

That form meets a road record that has not traveled as well. Houston is 2-4-0 away from home this season, and Tuesday’s quarterfinal puts that number under pressure against a St. Louis side that has already beaten Chicago on the road and taken points in MLS play last weekend.
