Morgan Falls Overlook Park closure ends with custody in Sandy Springs — Wsbtv

wsbtv reports Sandy Springs police shut down Morgan Falls Overlook Park on Tuesday and later apprehended a suspicious man in military-style gear after an extensive search. No injuries were reported.

The closure affected the park at 200 Morgan Falls Road and prompted a soft lockdown at Ison Springs Elementary School, where Fulton County Voting Precincts SS19A and SS22 were located. Voting at those precincts was suspended just before noon and lifted around 4 p.m.

Morgan Falls Road closure

Police responded to a call about a man dressed in military-style gear, then said he went into the woods after an alleged dispute with another person. After that, police received another 911 call reporting possible gunshots in the area.

Police and SWAT closed the entrance road to the park while officers searched the area. FBI Atlanta said it was assisting with the police investigation. Authorities had not publicly identified the suspect or released additional details.

Ison Springs polling site

Ison Springs Elementary School served as a polling location for SS19A and SS22, which made the police response more than a park closure. The Department of Registration and Elections is seeking a court order to extend voting hours past 7 p.m.

For voters in those precincts, the practical issue is whether the court grants more time after the interruption. The suspended hours have already been restored, but the day’s lost voting window pushed the decision to the court process now underway.

Tuesday search outcome

The man was later apprehended after the search, ending the park shutdown and the lockdown at the school. That left one immediate result for nearby residents and voters: access returned, but the county still has to address the hours lost at the polls.
