Travis Bazzana and Rocchio Build 2025 Chemistry for Guardians
travis bazzana has settled in with Brayan Rocchio, and Cleveland’s middle infield is looking less like a preseason question than a developing strength. Stephen Vogt said the pair are talking constantly and starting to feel each other well on defense as the 2025 season moves on.
Bazzana and Rocchio at Cleveland
The Guardians called up Bazzana after selecting him first overall in the 2024 draft, and he has meshed well with Rocchio at shortstop. Vogt kept the evaluation simple: “Yeah, it's great.”
That progress matters because Cleveland opened the season with its middle infield viewed as a major question mark. Vogt said Rocchio has been pushing Bazzana during practice, while the two keep working through different angles and communications.
Vogt Sees Cleaner Communication
Early on, the Guardians had growing pains on balls up the middle. Vogt said the club has not seen those same issues as of late, which points to a double-play combination that is settling into its responsibilities rather than reacting to them.
“You see Rocchio pushing him during practice,” Vogt said. “You see them talking constantly, working on different angles, different communications.” He added, “We saw some kind of growing pains early on balls up the middle, but we really haven't seen that as of late” and said, “It takes time to, you don't have that sixth sense of where the other one is quite yet, but they're working on that and starting to feel that really well.”
Rocchio's Batting Line
Rocchio has also given Cleveland production at the plate. His slash line has risen to.277/.357/.372 with a.729 OPS, 41 hits, five doubles and three home runs.
He has spent time batting in the No. 9 spot and has had many opportunities with runners in scoring position this season. That gives the Guardians a middle-infield pairing that is still learning together on defense while Rocchio supplies a steady line of contact and extra-base production in the lower part of the order.
