Shapiro, Boyle, Dean Set Fall Matchups in Pa Election Results
Pennsylvania's pa election results set fall matchups in four Philadelphia-region congressional districts as polls closed on primary day. Few issues were reported at Philadelphia-area polling places, and turnout was generally low.
The Democratic primary in the 3rd Congressional District was poised to produce the nominee who will replace retiring U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans. In the 2nd District, U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle will face GOP challenger Jessica Arriaga, while U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean will take on Republican candidate Aurora Stuski in the 4th District.
Shapiro at The Fuge
Gov. Josh Shapiro ran unopposed in his primary and was heading to a primary night event at The Fuge in Warminster, Bucks County, as Democrats began filing in. State Treasurer Stacy Garrity also ran unopposed in her Republican primary.
The governor's race drew attention beyond the top of the ticket because November's ballot will also decide the congressional contests now set in the Philadelphia region. The 3rd District race was described as crowded, costly and combative, putting the focus on which candidate will move into the general election against the backdrop of a retiring incumbent.
Philadelphia Polling Places
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner was kicked out of an election day lunch after clashing with union leader Ryan Boyer, one of the day's few reported flare-ups. That stood out against a primary day that produced few polling-place problems across the Philadelphia area.
For voters in the region's congressional districts, the practical result is settled: the general-election field is now in place in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Districts, and the fall campaign begins with those matchups locked in.
