Vassos Alexander completes 100km District Line run in Sunday challenge
Track Radio breakfast host Vassos Alexander completed a 100km run along the district line on Sunday, covering every branch of the London Underground route on foot. He became the first person known to finish the route that way and set a Best Known Time.
The challenge was timed to Mental Health Awareness Week. Alexander said, "This was without doubt one of the toughest things I’ve ever done physically, but also one of the most rewarding," and used the run to highlight how movement can support mental wellbeing.
Track Radio launch
Track Radio launched earlier this month and broadcasts online nationwide and on London DAB. Alexander hosts breakfast on the station alongside Charlotte Daly, with Mark Pougatch and Sonja McLaughlan also in the presenter line-up.
For listeners, the run gives the station an early public marker after launch: a host taking on a route tied to one of London’s best-known transport lines, then using the finish to push a message about mental health rather than promotion alone. Alexander put it plainly: "Even getting out for a walk or short run can make a huge difference."
Mental Health Awareness Week
The timing gave the effort its clear purpose. By linking a 100km run to Mental Health Awareness Week, Alexander turned a fitness challenge into a statement about ordinary movement rather than elite training.
That framing fits the route itself. He ran every branch of the district line and ended with a Best Known Time, leaving the benchmark in place for anyone who tries the course next.
For readers who want the practical takeaway, the challenge shows how a simple daily habit can be turned into something bigger without needing a race bib, a stadium or a formal event. Alexander’s own words kept the message grounded: "Even getting out for a walk or short run can make a huge difference."
