Kira Faust Arrested on Child Neglect Charges After McDonald’s Trip
Kira Faust, 19, was arrested in Aberdeen on Monday on child neglect charges after police said she left a 6-month-old baby home alone. Aberdeen Police said officers found the infant in unsafe and unsanitary living conditions.
Police took temporary custody of the child, and Child Protective Services worked with UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Aberdeen to secure a safe placement. Faust later was released on her own recognizance.
Aberdeen Police Statement
Aberdeen Police said they were alerted to an infant left alone in a property. "Upon arrival, officers located the infant unattended in unsafe and unsanitary living conditions."
Police also said that, with help from the Bel Air Police Department, officers located Faust. "With assistance from the Bel Air Police Department, officers located Faust, who stated she had left the child home alone while she went to meet friends at a McDonald’s in Bel Air".
Bel Air And Aberdeen
Bel Air is around 10 miles from where the baby was left alone. Police said the infant was unattended while Faust went to meet friends there, a detail that put the arrest in Aberdeen and the alleged trip in two different locations on the same day.
Faust’s exact relationship to the child was not revealed. The teen appears to have worked most recently as a daycare teacher at Churchville Presbyterian Preschool and Daycare in Aberdeen.
Temporary Custody In Aberdeen
The immediate consequence for the baby was temporary custody by Aberdeen Police and a placement effort led by Child Protective Services. For Faust, the case now centers on the child neglect charge and the police account of leaving a 6-month-old alone while heading to McDonald’s.
That is the part that will matter most to anyone following the case: the arrest is already done, the child has been removed from the property, and the remaining issue is the criminal charge tied to what police say happened before officers arrived.
