Leon Ayinde Set for Doncaster Rovers Move on Three-and-a-Half-Year Deal

leon ayinde will join Doncaster Rovers when his Ipswich Town contract expires next month, moving to League One on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The 21-year-old winger leaves after a spell that took him from Cork City to Ipswich’s Under-21 setup and into senior squad involvement.

Ayinde and Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster have added a young winger who has already collected senior experience across several levels. Ayinde joined Ipswich from Cork City in January 2023, became a key part of the Under-21s, and was around the first team last pre-season.

He was on the bench for Ipswich’s Carabao Cup first-round defeat at Bromley and again for the Championship home opener against Southampton in August. Those squad appearances, combined with his work in development football, show why Doncaster are backing him on a long deal rather than a short trial period.

Rochdale and Boreham Wood

His senior minutes have come away from Ipswich. In the 24/25 season, he gained National League experience with Rochdale, then helped Boreham Wood reach the National League play-off final at Wembley during the 25/26 campaign.

That route gives Doncaster a player who has already moved through academy football, first-team fringes and non-league senior matches before reaching League One. For a club that finished 14th in League One recently, the move points to a clear bet on a winger who is still only 21 but has already seen multiple levels of the game.

Ipswich Contract Expiry

The timing is straightforward: once next month arrives and his Ipswich contract ends, the transfer can go through. Ayinde’s departure closes the chapter that began in January 2023 and opens a longer stretch at Doncaster, where the contract length suggests the club plans to give him time to settle and develop.

For Ipswich, it ends a run that included Under-21 development and senior bench experience. For Doncaster, it brings in a winger with a recent record of progression and a spell at Wembley already on his résumé.
