Omar Adom Zidan Relieved After Refusing Cover-Up, Gets DOD Offer

Omar Adom Zidan is relieved of duty in Monday’s Season 8 finale of FBI after he refuses to fake his field reports about a bio-hazard case. Lawrence Green orders him to surrender his gun and badge, then Anna Vorpe later approaches him at a bar with an off-the-books DOD job on her strike team.

26 Fed and the stolen sample

The case starts when a high-risk bio-hazard sample is stolen from a transport vehicle, pulling OA, Maggie, Scola, and Eva into a race to track it down before the deadly pathogen reaches the streets. The sample is identified as one of the most transmittable RNA viruses known to the government, and the NSA steps in to steal it after the truck is already compromised.

Anna and her team use torture to get answers out of some truck drivers, while the threat is eventually eliminated. The virus has already been released on a busload of civilians by the time the operation is wrapped, leaving OA and Maggie ordered to omit the pathogen and its victims from their reports.

Lawrence Green orders OA out

OA refuses to write the report the way Lawrence Green wants and tells Green that Green is a disgrace to the bureau. Green relieves OA of duty and sends him away from 26 Fed after ordering him to surrender his gun and badge. OA leaves after quick goodbyes, ending his run in the bureau’s chain of command on the spot.

The friction inside the finale comes from the gap between OA and Anna’s teams: OA and Maggie are told the greater good justifies the cover-up, but OA will not sign off on hiding the pathogen or the victims. Zeeko Zaki said, “OA and Maggie have a moral compass.” He also said, “It goes against everything [OA] stands for.”

Anna Vorpe's off-the-books offer

Later, while OA is drinking at a bar, Anna approaches him with a job offer for her strike team. She says the position would be for the DOD and off the books, then slips him a card as OA plays it cool.

Zaki described Anna as “the darker side of law enforcement” and said, “They do whatever it takes.” He added, “Shoot first, ask questions later.” The offer gives OA a clear alternative after his removal from duty, and it points him toward a new lane outside the FBI structure that he just refused to protect with a false report.

OA’s final exchange with Maggie ties the episode back to where he stands now: “Things weren't like this when we signed up. The whole world feels like it's coming apart at the seams.” Zaki said OA is reacting to “Bio weapons. AI. The world is changing, and he has a front row seat to how the dark side is evolving.”
