San Lorenzo's edge
San Lorenzo arrive from a different competitive place even if their recent form is not spotless. They were knocked out of the 2026 Torneo Apertura by River Plate on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the round of 16, but in Group D they have the cushion that Santos do not. A draw on Wednesday would keep the leaders well placed.
The historical edge is also tight. Their previous meeting in the current Sudamericana campaign ended 1-1, and their 2021 Copa Libertadores encounter in Brasilia finished 2-2. That pattern fits the stakes: Santos need a clean result, while San Lorenzo can live with a point and protect first place.
