Edmonton news: the Edmonton Police Service seized more than $8 million in drugs after a national drug trafficking investigation that linked Edmonton to Winnipeg. Police executed a search warrant on April 16, 2026, in the area of 109 Street and Jasper Avenue and arrested Kreston David, 26.
Jen McCann on Edmonton arrest
S/Sgt. Jen McCann of the EPS Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement Unit said officers found a suspect in Edmonton with more than 80 kilograms of drugs. She said, “We’re pleased our partners at the Winnipeg Police Service brought their large-scale investigation to a successful conclusion, and that EPS officers were able to locate and arrest a suspect in Edmonton found with more than 80 kilograms of drugs.”
David is facing charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking five times, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and proceeds of crime. The Edmonton Police Service said it is not looking for additional suspects.
Winnipeg Police Service probe
The Edmonton case came from shared intelligence and findings from a Winnipeg Police Service investigation that began in May 2024. That investigation involved the Edmonton Police Service, the RCMP and the Ontario Provincial Police, and Edmonton police said Winnipeg issued a media release about the case and 33 arrests.
Parkland RCMP partnership
Edmonton police and Parkland RCMP launched their own joint drug trafficking investigation in February 2026. McCann said, “Strong partnerships and intelligence sharing are essential to disrupting drug trafficking across the country.”
For Edmonton, the arrest closes the immediate search tied to the warrant at 109 Street and Jasper Avenue. The charges and the broader Winnipeg-linked investigation now sit with the courts and the police agencies that built the case.
