Young Out, Savage Returns as Raiders Vs Dolphins Reworked

The raiders vs dolphins clash in Canberra arrived with both squads reshaped before kickoff, after State of Origin selection and hamstring injuries stripped away key options. The Raiders lost Hudson Young and Ethan Strange, while the Dolphins were forced to cover for four Origin absences and two more injury setbacks.

Canberra squad shake-up

Young was unavailable because of State of Origin selection, and Strange was gone for the same reason, leaving the Raiders to adjust around their back-row and halves stocks. Xavier Savage returned on the wing after recovering from an ankle injury, and 20-year-old forward Jordan Uta was set to make his debut.

That gave Canberra a different look on the edge and in the middle. Savage’s return restored pace to the wing, while Uta’s first NRL appearance added another change to a side already working around missing Origin players.

Dolphins lose strike options

The Dolphins walked into the match without Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Selwyn Cobbo, Thomas Flegler and Max Plath because of State of Origin selection. Herbie Farnworth was also ruled out with a hamstring injury, and Kodi Nikorima joined him on the sidelines for the same reason.

Those losses cut across the Dolphins’ spine, pack and outside backs at once. They came in with a chance to chase the club’s first-ever fourth-straight NRL victory, but the selection sheet made that task harder by removing several of the players who usually carry the load.

Raiders Vs Dolphins selection pressure

Both teams had to build around absences rather than preferred lineups. The Origin drain hit Canberra and Brisbane in different ways, but the effect was the same: fewer established combinations and more reliance on players stepping in under pressure.

For the Raiders, the immediate test was replacement and cohesion. For the Dolphins, it was whether a reshuffled side could still keep their run alive while missing six players who were out before the opening whistle. The Canberra match became a selection problem before it became a football problem.
