August Holmgren Wins 6-3, 6-3 and Stays One Match From Roland Garros
August Holmgren moved within one match of the French Open main draw on Wednesday, beating Daniel Jade 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of qualifying. The Danish player now needs one more win to reach Roland Garros proper, with the tournament set to begin Sunday in Paris.
Holmgren vs. Daniel Jade
holmgren handled the 17-year-old French wild card without dropping a set. Jade came in ranked 1447th in the world, but the scoreline stayed firm at 6-3, 6-3 and kept Holmgren on track in qualifying.
That result matters because qualifying is the only route left for him to join the main draw. One more match now separates him from the field that starts play Sunday.
Tauson in Strasbourg
Clara Tauson, another Dane in the same French Open build-up, lost 1-6, 5-7 to Jaqueline Cristian in Strasbourg on Wednesday. Tauson had entered as the fourth seed and had a bye in the first round.
Her loss closed out what was supposed to be her final warm-up tournament before Paris. She had not completed a match since 8 March before Wednesday and had dropped to 21st in the rankings after beginning the year at 14th.
Holmgren still controls his own path to the main draw, and Tauson’s early exit leaves her final tune-up finished before the French Open starts Sunday. For both Danes, the week now turns from preparation to the pressure of the next result.
