Jim Goodwin Not Surprised by Amar Fatah Rangers Interest

Jim Goodwin is not surprised by reported Rangers interest in amar fatah after the 22-year-old forward produced nine goals and four assists in 34 appearances for Dundee United. The form has pushed Fatah into summer transfer talk while he remains under contract to Troyes until 2027.

Goodwin on Fatah's surge

“I’m not surprised because I think Amar’s performances for Dundee United have been exceptional,” Goodwin said. That assessment came after a season in which Fatah gave Dundee United a consistent attacking outlet and kept his level high enough to draw attention beyond Tannadice.

“Like any young player, he’s had little moments – little lulls if you like – but they’ve never dragged on for too long,” Goodwin added. “He maybe had a bad game here and there but very quickly after that he goes and performs to a high level again. He’s been an absolute pleasure to work with.”

Those numbers back the manager’s view. Fatah finished with nine goals and four assists across 34 total appearances, a return that marked his strongest output in a single senior season. For a player who was still building his profile after arriving on loan from Troyes, that volume is the clearest reason Rangers would be watching.

Rangers interest and Fatah's role

Goodwin went further when asked about the reported link. “Whether Rangers are interested in Amar or not I don’t know but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest because I think he’s been one of the best performers in his position on a consistent basis throughout the season,” he said. He also pointed to one specific night at Ibrox, where Fatah “was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.”

Fatah’s profile helps explain the fit. He is primarily a left winger but can play anywhere across the forward line, and FotMob data showed a 40.8 per cent crossing accuracy in the Scottish Premiership in 2025-26, ranking him in the top three percentile of all left wingers in the league. That mix of output and versatility is the type of profile clubs weigh when they want more end product in attack.

His route to this point was not obvious when he joined Dundee United on loan from the French side last summer. In 2024-25, he had 22 Eredivisie appearances and 23 total outings for Willem II, the most he had managed in a single season at that stage of his career. He is also a Swedish youth international, and Troyes won the Ligue 2 title in 2025-26 while holding his contract through the summer of 2027.

For Dundee United, the practical issue is simple: Fatah’s loan has turned into a showcase, and the market is responding. For Rangers, the interest now sits on top of a season’s worth of numbers and a manager who has already watched him punish them at Ibrox.
