Iraola Emerges in Next Liverpool Manager Odds as Slot Pressure Mounts
Liverpool’s next liverpool manager odds have shifted toward Andoni Iraola after claims that the club has decided to move on from Arne Slot for the 26/27 season. The move would come after Liverpool took just one point from their last three Premier League fixtures and slipped into a fight to hold the final Champions League spot.
Slot and Liverpool
A report on Thursday said the Liverpool board had decided not to continue with Slot for the 26/27 season, with the same account saying the call was made over the weekend after conversations with senior players. It later added that Slot is set to take charge of Liverpool’s final game of the season on Sunday and that no decision on his replacement has been made.
That sequence leaves Liverpool in a strange position. The team is still competing for Champions League qualification, yet the talk around the manager points beyond the current campaign and straight into planning for next season.
Iraola’s Liverpool case
Iraola has recently been linked as one of the candidates to replace Slot, and Emile Heskey backed that view by saying he has shown the capabilities for the job. Heskey also called him “a very, very intelligent coach” and said Bournemouth is not Liverpool, adding that the Anfield job demands more speed and less patience than some other clubs offer.
He also pointed to the style question. Liverpool fans want entertaining football, and Heskey said that is part of what makes Iraola a live option.
Riise backs Xabi Alonso
John Arne Riise offered a different read on the situation. He said Xabi Alonso would have waited for Liverpool and argued that if the club had been thinking about letting Slot go, they would already have spoken to Alonso and kept him informed.
Riise called Alonso the obvious choice if Liverpool wanted to change managers. That leaves the club with two clear tracks in the public debate: Iraola as a candidate with growing support, and Alonso as the name many still see as the cleanest fit if a change is coming.
