Adam Wexler Gives UGA $10 Million for Georgia Basketball

adam wexler has given the University of Georgia Athletic Association a $10 million donation for Georgia men’s basketball, the largest single gift in UGA athletics history to support the program. The money will go to personnel and operating expenses as a general fund, with part of it directed to the Athletic Director Excellence Fund.

Wexler’s Georgia connection

The university announced the donation on Thursday. Wexler is a 2007 UGA graduate who attended the Terry College of Business, and he also founded Atlanta-based sports fantasy company PrizePicks. He is now the CEO of The Hidden Jams.

Wexler tied the gift to his family’s history at Georgia. “The University of Georgia has always meant a tremendous amount to me and my family,” he said, adding, “Watching my father’s lifelong connection to this university shaped my appreciation for what Georgia represents: opportunity, culture, and excellence.”

His father, Alan Wexler, was a two-sport athlete at Georgia. He played alongside Fran Tarkenton and ran track under coach Spec Towns.

Josh Brooks and Mike White

UGA athletic director Josh Brooks said the donation will “leave a lasting impact.” Georgia coach Mike White also pointed to the program’s recent climb, after leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and a school-record 22 wins.

White said, “From the day we arrived in Athens, the focus of our program has been growth,” and added, “Our ultimate goal is to grow Georgia Basketball into a program that regularly competes at the highest levels.” He also said, “Georgia Basketball is very important to Adam Wexler, and his incredibly generous gift will assist us greatly in our pursuit to reach that standard.”

Wexler said he hopes the donation is only a beginning: “There has never been a more interesting time in the history of collegiate athletics for donors to make a difference, and I’d love for this to be the start of something much bigger for the Bulldog community.”
