Celebrini scores 2 as Canada blanks Italy 6-0 — Iihf Schedule

Canada put Italy away 6-0 on the iihf schedule Saturday in Fribourg, Switzerland, with Macklin Celebrini scoring twice and finishing with three points. The win left Canada at two wins from two in Group B after Friday’s 5-3 opening victory over Sweden.

Celebrini Opens the Gap

Celebrini struck first on a one-timer from the right circle with 3:04 remaining in the opening period, then added another goal at 2:09 in the middle period on a backhand shot. Sidney Crosby picked up the first assist on that second goal, and the 19-year-old captain kept Canada moving before Italy could settle into the game.

Dylan Holloway and Fraser Minten scored 47 seconds apart midway through the opening period, turning the early minutes into a quick lead. Italy had only just returned to the top division for the first time since 2022, and Canada never let the scoreline tighten after that fast start.

Talbot Stays Clean

Cam Talbot stopped all 19 shots he faced for the shutout. That gave Canada a second straight win in Group B and a goal difference boost that keeps the start tidy after the 5-3 result against Sweden on Friday.

Canada kept adding late. Evan Bouchard scored on a power play late in the second period, then Ryan O'Reilly scored within 25 seconds to stretch the margin further. Italy never found a reply against a team that has now handled its first two tournament tests in Fribourg.

Group B Start for Canada

The opening two results leave Canada in firm position early in Group B, with Celebrini’s three-point night standing out as the clearest individual marker. For Italy, the return to the top tier brought a steep first weekend, and the gap showed again once Canada stacked goals in both the first and second periods.
