Metrolinx warns Lakeshore East Line delays reach 30 minutes

Metrolinx said Thursday that the lakeshore east line was still facing delays of 20 to 30 minutes for a second straight morning because of a signal issue. The disruption was affecting train movements east of Union Station and between Whitby and Ajax GO.

Repair crews remained on scene while Metrolinx told commuters to allow extra travel time. The GO Transit website said the delays were continuing Thursday morning as the fault was still being worked on.

Union Station to Whitby

The issue first triggered widespread delays during Wednesday’s rush hour, when Lakeshore East trains and trains passing through the same junctions, including the Stouffville and Richmond Hill lines, were also affected. By Thursday, the focus had narrowed back to the Lakeshore East line, but the delay pattern had not cleared.

Metrolinx said it was continuing to investigate the signal issue on the Lakeshore East line and that it could affect travel times in and out of Union Station Thursday morning. The agency had not provided a detailed explanation of the underlying failure.

GO Transit alerts

Riders using the route were left with a simple operational choice: build in extra time or check for updates before leaving. GO Transit advised passengers to monitor On the GO Alerts and the GO Transit website for real-time information as the repair work continued.
