Gilbert Rozon will pay 930,000 $ and drop Droit appeal
Gilbert Rozon will pay 930,000 $ to nine plaintiffs and give up his droit to appeal after a civil ruling that found him responsible for assaulting eight women. The agreement was announced Wednesday in a communiqué from Trudel Johnston & Lespérance, and it fixes two payment deadlines tied to the settlement.
Under the deal, Rozon must pay 880,780 $ before the expiration of the applicable appeal period. He must also pay 50,000 $ more to the Courageuses by June 18, 2026.
March 31 ruling
The settlement follows Judge Chantal Tremblay’s decision on March 31. She ordered Rozon to pay a total of 880,000 $ to the plaintiffs and wrote that the tribunal’s findings supported the claim that his behavior fit the definition of a “prédateur sexuel.”
In the same ruling, Tremblay said the tribunal’s conclusions, “les conclusions du Tribunal en l’instance, eu égard aux huit actions retenues et aux récits des sept témoins de faits similaires, appuient l’affirmation […] voulant que le comportement de M. Rozon s’inscrive dans la définition d’un “prédateur sexuel”.”
Quebec Civil Code articles
The March 31 decision also addressed the Quebec Civil Code articles used to prevent myths and stereotypes in sexual assault defenses and to remove the limitation period for such cases. Tremblay ruled those provisions constitutional in a separate 150-page judgment issued the same day.
The new agreement changes the civil case from an appeal battle into a payment schedule with set deadlines. It also leaves the March 31 findings in place, including the ruling on liability and the constitutional validity of the Civil Code provisions.
Rozon and the plaintiffs
The source says the agreement covers nine plaintiffs, while the earlier judgment referred to eight women found to have been assaulted. That difference is part of the settlement’s structure, and the payment terms now give the plaintiffs a fixed amount and a second installment date.
For Rozon, the immediate result is simple: he will not pursue an appeal, and the civil judgment will stand with the settlement amount attached to it. For the plaintiffs, the agreement turns the court’s ruling into a concrete payout of 930,000 $.
