Bakytov, David Fight To Majority Draw At Ufc Bjj 8

Azamat Bakytov and Thomas David opened ufc bjj 8 with a majority draw at Meta APEX. The middleweight bout went three rounds and became the first completed result of the night.

Bakytov Opens With A Takedown

Bakytov got the first takedown of the match with a single-leg in the first round. That was the cleanest scoring action of the opening frame, but neither fighter built much separation before the horn.

The first round ended without decisive offensive progress from either man. Referee Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro then told both fighters he needed to see more action in Round 2.

Point Deductions Change The Pace

The warning turned into penalties quickly. Both men were docked a point in the opening minute of Round 2, and Bakytov later took a second point deduction for lack of action on top.

David tried to force the issue from the bottom with a leg lock opening, then an ankle lock before the end of the round. The exchanges still did not produce a finish, and the bout moved to the final frame with the score in dispute.

David Presses Late In Round 3

Bakytov answered with another takedown on the slope of the bowl in the final round. David responded with a kneebar attempt and then a flying guillotine in the closing moments, but the fight still went the distance.

The judges returned a majority draw after three rounds. For an opening match that featured limited offense, multiple deductions and late submission looks, that result set a cautious tone before the rest of UFC BJJ 8, which also included Mikey Musumeci against Kevin Dantzler and Cassia Moura defending her women’s bantamweight title against Sabrina Gondim.
